| Health fears raised over M5 tunnel haze flush | | Posted Friday, November 10, 2006 12:31:09 AM by BlogJeeves Team | | A NSW Health Department report has warned that the Government's plan to reduce haze in the M5 East tunnel will damage air quality outside the tunnel and expose residents to unhealthy levels of pollution. Government documents released yesterday also show the Roads and Traffic Authority once described the plan to widen the Spit Bridge as a weak option that would prompt public scepticism. The authority is planning to blow exhaust fumes through the M5's entrances, or portals, as well as the stack from early morning until evening to reduce haze in the smoggy tunnel. It is applying for a change in planning laws to do it. But a report written less than a month ago by NSW Health's Population Health Division said venting tunnel emissions through the portals would expose residents to concentrated pollutants.... | |
